Road trip...Off to the CGTA in Toronto.

CGTA Spring 2011 Toronto Gift Show

Looking for ..........

Ahh, The CGTA, the largest gift trade show in Canada. It is always very exciting and stimulating. All you see is row after row of wholesalers ,distributors and importers from all over North America and abroad. It can also be quite overwhelming if you are not organized. I cannot wait to see what we can find this year.  The anticipation is killing me.

Some wonderful things to find.

The show is closed to the general public. Getting into the show is quite difficult.  Your credentials and your staffs credentials are thoroughly verified. You have to hand over your first born, your second born and tell them what size underwear you are wearing just to get in. This is done to protect retailers. It is all worth it.

Lovely vintage painted furniture.

Always looking for the one-of-a-kind special supplier. We have found the haystack and we also have found the needle a few times....it could be a hit or a miss every trip. Very anxious to see what there is to offer on this trip.

 Maybe? What can I say.

A wonderful find from the past.

Some wholesalers have dazzling displays.

 So much more to see.....

We are doing what most women love...SHOP. For five very long and full days we view thousands and thousands of products just trying to make the right choice for our customers. You gotta love it or DIE, DIE, DIE. A lot of sad sack faces hauling around suitcases on wheels. Some are really not enjoying it. I have the opportunity to shop with my good friend and we enjoy it immensely.

I will be back next week with "tales from the crypt" and hopefully some fabulous finds.

My words of inspiration for the week!

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

Vintage image block

I love all things vintage, old and worn out. The more wear and tear the better it is.
Well, there are exclusions. Cars, men......enough said.

Searching for images over the internet is as easy as clik, clik, clik and limitless.  My choice comes from The Graphics Fairy  who has been adding vintage images to her site every day since 2007.

I simply downloaded, printed and cut out the image.

A 6 X 6 inch stretch canvas was purchased at a craft store to paste my images on.

More images from The Graphics Fairy
This time I used a very old technique to achieve the worn out edges.

I burnt all the edges. Make sure you do this over a fireproof area like the sink. Remember... doing this to the first love letter you ever wrote but never had the gumption to sent out......
Notice the dirty pot in the sink in the background , "you know where my priorities are."

I used an old credit card to smooth out the wrinkles, a maxed out card works just as well. At least you are making good use of the plastic.

Relief Stencil paste was used to give it an aged look.

A closer look.

Et voila!

Hope it inspires you to create all your favorite
 images.

OK...I am an Addict

"They say" admitting to your addictions means you are half way to a cure.... but I don't want to be cured.
I am so addicted to blogging and other peoples blogs, I can't get myself off my computer chair long enough to get all my projects I have posted completed. I follow Miss Mustard seed. You really need to check out her blog. Great projects, very professional. She was my inspiration to begin blogging. Below is a photo of some of her work.

Fabulous

So today is the day to get my butt off this chair and get cracking...

More inspirational photographs I have been collecting.

Love the warm neutrals and overstuffed seat,

the chippy paint, toile seating a nice combination.

Wouldn't you just love a cozy corner like this somewhere, anywhere in your home?

I am on a mission today...off this chair I go and here is what I am searching for today... stuffing.

No, not turkey stuffing but stuffing and foam for this.....my weekend project.

and this.

 And what is this?
It is the start of something beautiful. I will reveal in a future blog.

My words of inspiration for the day.

Check out my knobbies

Check out my round extended protrusions, umm knobs used to open doors or drawers. Ahhh caught your attention.  I am soooo excited, they finally came.. in, my knobs that is. Is it possible to get so excited over such a thing? Remind me to get a life. Yaaaaaa! but of course, it is La Pièce de résistance, the final touch. My inspiration to get moving....

YES, I have to get moving and actually finish start the pieces. No fibbing in blog land.  When do you ladies find the time to do all these projects? It totally amazes me. I am all gaga over knobs and I have no idea when I will get cracking on these projects. The good thing is I have put it out there so I am accountable to finish all that I post about. I am the worst procrastinator... but I work very well under pressure and pressure I sure am creating for myself. Today's post should have been part 2 about the psychology of colour, colour - smolour... I had to show off my knobbies.

Well Voila, my extended protrusions in all their glory, the Knobs.

I have something in mind for all of them. The antique looking clock and glass knobs look fab. Very nice quality.

These extended protrusions are to die for....little birdies.

So where am I planning on putting these lovely knobs? Here are my finds...Projects I plan, on, completing say, maybe, this weekend. Or at least starting this weekend.

Some fine details

This commode has some fine details and a lovely mirror. I found this on craigslist for a steal. My son actually refused to help me put it in the truck. He called it junk! Now I really have to get this project going just to prove him wrong.

Au Revoir.

My words for today!

LIGHT TOMORROW WITH TODAY.

A tiny piece of the EARTH

I own a teeny weeny piece of the earth in the town of Boileau, Quebec on a beautiful lake. NO House just land, hill, land, hill.... water. I have stayed up many nights dreaming about how a single Mom can bring the kids up to enjoy it without popping up a tent in the middle of nowhere. By day OK, by night scarrrrryyyy! And then I see ....... Buttercup....I can see the light, bright, bright light.....Here SHE is in all her retro "glory-ness".

                                                            Isn't she a Beaut!

Spotted "Buttercup" on Junk Salvation, if you want the full scoop check it out.

All those nights turned into years and now my little boys are ummm, ummm teenagers.  Now, I just need to convince my teenage boys Mommsy is not off her rocker while I go searching for Buttercups twin sister. Maybe we will dress her in pink, no baby blue.....uuuummmmm!

I tell you they will be happy they won't have to be using this! Eh! Mommsy not so crazy now!

wouldn't she look beautiful here.....

Or.. maybe here, top of the world.. ok! mountain, ok hill!

Or here.....

Nice place to have a pik-nik....Some real vintage stuff!! mmmm, wonder what to do with this.

Waiting for those lazy, hazy days of summer..My tiny piece of the Earth means the world to me.

My words of wisdom for the day.

"Gotta roll with it!"
Pardon the Pun.

 Gotta love it!

The new Blogger on the block...Help

Well, well, well...... I have soooo much to learn. I started my blog 10 days ago and I am so hooked. My creative juices are flowing and I can't wait to get started on all the projects I have ensnared in my brain.

I have come to the realization; blogging is quite the serious affair. I came across a blogging site last night and I was in AWE. I also realized there is some type of protocol that needs to be followed????? Yikes! Proper Link Party Etiquette, etc.... I have a long way to go but I am loving the journey.

My creative spirit has been slumbering for a few years...? I am now literally bursting at the seams with creative incentive.  It has been awhile.....I have withdrawal. Miss the “Fleas” in the Market. Miss the adrenaline inducing hunt. I can manage to find the diamond in the rough under any flea market table.  I love, love, vintage and antique furniture. My house is filled with the stuff. From small knick knacks to large armoires. Found these at a yard sale quite a few years back. I cherish them.

Silver and gold  hors d’oeuvres picks and spoons.

Treasure box included.

And something special for a ladies best friend...

What is next? My soaring spirit, self-determination, free expression and choice.  My choice. My someday has arrived, that is my choice today.

I have a few projects I will get started on this weekend. With this fabulous material I found over the internet. It was quite the search.

I have two wonderful French Cane chairs to upholster.

Not sure if I should paint and distress them?

Love the worm holes. Authentic.

I will keep everyone posted on my progress and my SOMEDAY day to day choices........

Believe that YOU HAVE IT , and you have it.

GOTTA LOVE IT!

Color of the year 2011 revealed

ICI DELUX PAINTS AkzoNobel
The inspiration for the colour of the year for 2011 is "Appreciation". It is a light, airy, citrus yellow that symbolizes a freer spirit, sense of fun and positive energy. An almost neutral colour that can be used in a very modern environment or on the other end of the scale in a very vintage or French country setting. I love it. It is a very soft yellow almost like a lemon sherbet, a very happy and sun shiny color. The Colour Futures team describes the colour of the year as" Fresh, reassuring, sugared lemon, surprising, creative and fun, healthy, hopeful, glowing and warm".

Colour #
H1.18.84
89YY 78/269

Yellow in color psychology terms is always associated with warmth and sunshine. Light and airy yellows are recognized as being refreshing, cheering and uplifting. They are good at promoting communication and learning, helping to combat fatigue and depression and feelings of wellbeing and positive thought. They are also believed to enhance a mood of relaxation which in turn helps to minimize anxiety and stress.

The color palette for 2011  is spectacular. I will reveal all the Colour futures colour trends for 2011 in future blogs. You won't be disappointed. It will inspire you to make changes. Here is a sneak peak. Let it stimulate your senses.

The RED palette for 2011; Soft Strawberry reds that can be combined with cooler grays and deep warm neutrals.

Warm Neutrals...a great companion with reds.

The key colour (B2.39.41 90RR 18/450) is a juicy pink toned red, very warm feminine and romantic. A very soft and a slightly cooler toned red which is very delicious and cozy.

I have worked on a few projects with ICI Paints and their colour palette continues to amaze and inspire me. I Hope it does the same for you. More to come.....
