Having fun with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

Ever have one of those days when all you want to do is be creative?  Friday was that day for me and my Assistant, Mel! Look what we created back in our studio for our Valentine's day store window. We painted 4 masterpieces using only the paint from the lids of our Annie Sloan Chalk Paint......

I was JUST back  from my Stockist "Annie Sloan Train the trainer course" and the big Gift show in NYC. Wow, wow and wow. More to follow on the show in NY.  For now,  I just have to say my training session was a blast. A BIG thank you to Patty the NJ Stockist from Classic Wall Finishes and her sister Karen, back in Little Silver, NJ, who trained us. I had a spectacular time and learned so, so, much.  Also training with me, Cathy the NY Stockist of The Painted Piece from NY. A wonderful woman.  I also had a few good laughs with her.  I now feel very confident to pass on that knowledge to my "creative" and "patient" customers. That being said, the creativity was bursting out of me. I guess it was rubbing off on Mel too....Look what she created.

And this too!

Can you guess what Annie Sloan colors we used?

French Linen, Henrietta and Emperors silk.
They look spectacular together.

We first applied vintage patterns to our canvases.

Using wall paper paste applied with a sponge roller.

A spatula was used to smooth out the wrinkles on the patterns. We left many, many wrinkles to give our pieces texture and relief.

I ripped most of my patterns instead of cutting them to give an uneven edge. Mel burned the sharp edges off of hers.

Fun, fun, fun. I discovered in one of the pattern envelopes, a hand written french list of instructions from a Mother to a daughter. I just had to add it to my piece.

We then applied a coat of clear wax, followed by a light brushing of the dark wax to catch the wrinkles in the patterns. This technique enhanced the wrinkles, added depth to our pieces and was "la piece de resistance". The finishing touches that completed our pieces.

WE LITERALLY USED THE PAINT FROM THE LIDS OF THE CANS TO CREATE ALL 4 PIECES. THIS PAINT GOES A LONG WAY.

I must say our window looks spectacular.  Some customers have even asked how much we were selling the canvases in the window? Imagine that!

What a wonderful way to spend a Friday afternoon!

My words of inspiration for the day.

Have a good one!
Caroline

  1. You must take a hint from your costumers and create more of these types one of a kind creations to sell!! Obviously, they are nice enough that people want them. Personally I would definitely consider them, they are absolutely beautiful! You could use book pages and old sheet music for various themes.
