Remember Mme. Classy Lady? Now meet Mr. Handyman!
I received a huge response when I featured Mme. Classy Lady's beautiful Shabby Chic Home in Pointe-Claire, Quebec. Today I introduce you to Mr. Handyman, her husband. It is my understanding that he also has a green thumb. The exterior of their home is as equally elegant as the interior. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy the tour:
My Mom grew these bushes, she called them snowballs. Every summer she brought in bouquets of them.
I will begin with a shot of the full backyard so we can get a sense of what we are admiring. On the left is Mme Classy Lady's Porch (to die for!). On the right is the famous "Le Petit Bayou". A sanctuary we all dream of. If you haven't already done so, I suggest you visit these two surprising retreats, here.
The side view of Le Petit Bayou.
As a couple they both compliment each others passions. Her, the Shabby Chic interior design, Him, his love for beautifully tendered gardens.
Together they create and design nooks and seating areas throughout the garden, just like within the home. Below is a view looking onto her lovely porch. Love the climbing pink clematis combined with the ferns. This tree must be a couple of hundred years old. Sadly some people cut down our old trees in the city searching for more daylight. I am so glad to see they have embraced it.

They are both equally passionate about their home, inside and out. Love the beautiful pink Hydrangeas. And, quelle surprise! A little bit of Shabby Chic on the bench. A very nice touch. No doubt, hers.
Creeping Virgina vines fill in the spaces creating a lush, green and abundant flower bed. The baskets await your choice of florals for the day.
Excuse me while I check where I am? Bahamas, Barbados?
I get the sense I am in the tropics. Where is the ocean? With the large ferns and palm leaves a feeling of the tropics has been very successfully achieved. One would never believe this setting sits under 5 feet of snow for 4-5 months of the year.
Getting to this is what Montreal is all about. We crave our summers . Deck and patio life is very much a lifestyle here. Our summers soar to temperatures in excess of 30-32 degrees Celsius or 86-90 Fahrenheit with a humidex of 80-90 %. We just LOVE, LOVE our summers. And I just love, love the little fenced in patio. Breaks up and adds coziness to the large backyard.
When it is hot we forget how frigidly cold it can get in Montreal and when it is cold we forget how scorchingly hot our summers can be. But, underneath this canopy of trees, with a slight warm summer breeze on my shoulders, I could imagine an ice cold glass of Chardonnay or maybe even a Margarita in my hands enjoying the tropical surroundings.. Ahhh summer will be upon us soon, real soon! . When Montrealers emerge from hibernation and flock to our "Terrasses".
Which seating area would you most enjoy? What time of day do you favor, morning, afternoon, evening or warm summer nights?
My words of inspiration for the day.
In all things of nature, there is something of the marvelous.
