Fly me to the moon

Ahhhh, These lyrics bring back fond childhood memories. My Mom sang these words as she went about her daily chores. Fly me to the mooooon, Let me play among the stars.......Her voice echoed up and down the stairs and hallways. My Mom is my hero. She is a strong woman who raised 6, yes 6 kids all on her own.  Lost one as a young adult. How she kept her spirits up I have no idea. sigh! I miss her. She is away on vacation. We don't always talk daily, but I know if I need her she is a phone call away. Funny how we take the simplest things for granted. I am just being a baby!!! She will be back soon.  Todays blog is dedicated to her. My Mom. My hero.......

As you will see, I cannot leave well enough alone! I just had to antique it.

I have it leaning on my make-up desk, along with some of my favorite things.

Here is a quick tutorial on how this project came about.

Printed the words to the song in a word document using different fonts and sizing to give it some character and interest.

Gave a quick coat of mars black and raw umber applied with a sponge brush on a stretch canvas.

Transferred the document on to the canvas using a white transfer paper. This was tedious but simple.

Filled in the lines with white paint. This took about an hour. I wasn't satisfied with the overall look. I was envisioning more of an antique look. Soooo......

I coated it with relief stencil paste, applied a coat of medium brown stain and rubbed off the excess with a rag. Et voila!  The results.

I am happy with the end product. It really has a vintage look.

Love you Mom and miss you xxx.

My words of inspiration for the day. The lyrics to...

Fly me to the moon

Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars...

In other words, hold my hand
In other words, darling, kiss me

Fill my heart with song
And let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore...

In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you

Fill my heart with song
And let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for,
All I worship and adore...

In other words, please be true
In other words
In other words

I love... you
